Christmas Decorations and Baking

Together with friends from my "Garden Forum", we made wreaths and garlands as christmas decorations on saturday afternoon.
This is how I decorated our home:

My first "English Christmas Fruitcake"

And my first "Christmas Stollen"

A Walk In The Park

Sunday morning after breakfast we decided to go for a little walk. Just a few minutes, to the nearest park which is only a few hundred meters from our home.

But it was so interesting there and we found such a lot of nice things, that we went on to the next park and then down to the river, and we returned home just in time for lunch after a 2 ½ hour walk.

The weather was not really good, but it was very warm (15°C at Nov., 26th) and it was fortunately not raining.

Here are some impressions of our “short” sunday morning walk:

First the "Henkell-Park", which is my favorite one, because it is only five minutes away and full of interesting plants and flowers

Then we walked through the "Schloßpark Biebrich" down to the Rhine River:

Christmas Cookies

Last night I really started the holiday season with baking cookies!!!!

I enjoyed the smell of coco and the kitchen was warm and cosy, although outside it was cold and raining.

I made coco macaroons (Kokosmakronen) and even my husband likes them very much. So I am not sure if they will last until christmas!!!

The warm days with sunshine are gone now for a long time, and normally I am very sad about this, because I like spring and summer more.
But this year I am really looking forward to a good winter season and I want to enjoy every minute of it.
So e
very afternoon when we come home from work we first enjoy our cup of Earl Grey.

And we are doing a lot of redecorating and renovating in our apartment now; I think for such work wintertime is the best time of the year. It is a lot of work, but when everything is new and nice you know that it was worth the effort. The problem is, it all takes a lot of time, and so I think when we have finished the whole apartment we will have to start in the first room again.

The Time before Christmas

Finally, winter has begun.
It is getting colder and colder each day and together with the cold temperatures and the foggy weather there comes an idea of a warm fireplace, a good cup of tea and candles throughout the house.
.
Fortunately, I have nearly finished my garden work for this year. There are still the oleanders waiting outside to move to our winter garden and some plants must still be protected with fir.
.
Inspired from the much too early decorations in town and from the magazines I am reading, I am thinking a lot about christmas now, planning to do baking, cooking, having guests, sending seasons greetings to all our friends ..... in the weeks before christmas.
.
I am longing for the day I can start with my christmas decorations, knowing that now it is still too early (you normally don't start before "Totensonntag", which will be next sunday!), but that next week I won't have enough time to do it all.
This year, I want a very special decoration, in every room of our apartment and with garlands, christmas lights in everywindow, lots of candles and ribbons and ..... I hope I will find the time to do it!
.
Although summertime is my favorite season, I also love this time of the year because of all the warm lights and the smell of cinnamon and other spices.
.
Perhaps this afternoon I should start the holiday season with baking some christmas biscuits?

A few days off

Although I have got a few days off, I have been very busy the last days.
It is not the best time of the year for a vacation, but I think I need a few days in November to start the christmas preparations and to do some of the things I don`t have tine for during the year.

The garden still needs some care to be ready for winter, a few bulbs are still waiting to be buried in the soil...., but with this temperatures we have right now, one couldn`t imagine that winter is really coming soon. This morning, we have 12,5 °C, much too warm for mid-November!

The last days, I have been doing a lot of patchwork, finally. It is something I really love to do, but throughout the year I hardly find any time for it. So yesterday I finally finished sewing my first real big quilt. Nor it needs only quilting, then it is ready after two years. But thats still a lot of work to do, and I am not sure if I have got the right sewing maschine to do it myself. There is a posibility to give it away for quilting and I am now checking it is worth it or to need another two or three year til it is finished. (and then our bedroom has changed perhaps and we`d love another style???)
So here is some of my last days work:

Relaxing weekend?

It`s sunday night now and I feel like not having had any weekend!
The whole sunday I followed a Multimedia-Workshop, and although I know that I learnt a lot there, I now have the feeling to know anything at all. It was very heavy, 9 hours with only one real break.
But now I know a little bit more about pictures, music and videos on the PC. And I hope that next time I don`t have to ask my husband every time I want to do something with my pictures.

Saturday we had the first part of our annual Patchwork-Christmas Workshop.
Here are some impressions of what we produced there:

And this was my work:

I hope that during this week until next saturday I will find some time for patchwork at home.

Patchwork

Today and next saturday I will go to our Patchwork Christmas-Workshop. I love patchwork, but unfortunately I do not have enough time to do any sewing or quilting at home. So I like going to my group, to have some time for my own and to do something creative! Normally we are meeting on mondays, but every year in november there are 2 extra meetings on saturday, especially for christmas quilts.

I hope that tomorrow night I can already show some results.
